CASA offers professional development workshops throughout the year where students can learn how to write personal statements, build professional portfolium, conduct undergraduate research, and explore best-practices for interviews and recruitment weekends. We also host field trips and career/graduate panels.
Pre-PhD
Georgia State University’s CASA provides centralized programming to generate interest and promote activities in pursuit of doctoral degrees. Undergraduates need support in recognizing and establishing characteristics that contribute to successful progress to and through a doctor of philosophy programs (Ph.D.) in their areas of interest.
The CASA also aims to sustain contact with alumni to facilitate post-PhD career success. Three main goals drive this pre-PhD programming: 1) help students identify and solidify their interests and eligibility for graduate school; 2) provide academic mentoring and support that keeps students on track toward successful graduate school applications and career progressions, both directly to students and indirectly through faculty development; and 3) expand research opportunities on all campuses.
Pre-Law
Georgia State University’s CASA provides centralized pre-law programming that complements department-based efforts in order to ignite serious interest in legal careers, support undergraduate experiences in pathways toward law school, and sustain assistance for students and alumni transitioning to and through law school.
Three main goals drive this pre-law programming: 1) help students discover whether the study and practice of law are a good fit for their academic, professional, and personal goals; 2) provide pre-law mentoring and opportunities that hone interests and keeps students on track toward successful law school bids and progressions; and 3) maintain a legal internship program through local and regional firms.
Pre-Med
Georgia State University’s CASA provides centralized pre-med programming that complements advising from the College of Arts and Sciences in order to identify serious and realistic interest in health professions, with focus on programs in medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy. Undergraduates need support in recognizing and establishing characteristics that contribute to successful admission to medical school and competitive bids for residency. Three main goals drive this pre-med programming: 1) help students solidify their interests and eligibility for medical school and similar programs; 2) provide pre-med mentoring that keeps students on track toward successful med school progressions; and 3) establish a repository for shadowing, scribe, and related volunteer experiences.CASA offers professional development workshops throughout the year where students can learn how to write personal statements, build professional portfolium, conduct undergraduate research, and explore best-practices for interviews and recruitment weekends.
